Douglas Parkes grew up surrounded by the clink of glasses and the drinker's refrain, "Cheers!" Currently editor at Time Out Hong Kong, Douglas comes from a line of forefathers who worked as publicans on the fringes of London. It was his experience growing up in such establishments – pulling pints, stocking selves, changing barrels – that stoked his interest in the wider drinks trade.

After an informal 'education' at many of London's most famous spots for mixology, Douglas moved to China, in 2013, as a staff writer for Time Out Shanghai. There, he witnessed first hand the city's burgeoning cocktail scene, writing various bar reviews for work, as well partaking in his free time. Two years later he swapped offices and moved south to work for Time Out Hong Kong, where, among other duties, he continues to write reviews for the Drinks section and explores the city's many vibrant watering holes.
